Anime salve
Safe souls

Mille anni al mondo mille ancora
che bell'inganno sei anima mia
e che bello il mio tempo che bella compagnia
sono giorni di finestre adornate

canti di stagione
anime salve in terra e in mare
sono state giornate furibonde
senza atti d'amore

senza calma di vento
solo passaggi e passaggi
passaggi di tempo
ore infinite come costellazioni e onde

spietate come gli occhi della memoria
altra memoria e no basta ancora
cose svanite facce e poi il futuro
i futuri incontri di belle amanti scellerate

saranno scontri
saranno cacce coi cani e coi cinghiali
saranno rincorse morsi e affanni per mille anni
mille anni al mondo mille ancora

che bell'inganno sei anima mia
e che grande il mio tempo che bella compagnia
mi sono spiato illudermi e fallire
abortire i figli come i sogni

Still one thousand years in the world,
what such a good lie you're my soul
and how good's my time,
what a good company.

Seasons' songs,
safe souls in the earth and in the sea.
They've been furious days,
without any love acts.

Without calm wind,
only passages and passages,
time passages,
neverending hours like constellations and waves.

Ruthless like memory's eyes,
there's another memory but it isn't enough yet.
Faded things, faces and then the future,
next dates with pretty and wicked lovers

they'll be clashes,
they'll be hunts with dogs and boars,
they'll be some run-ups, bites and breathlessness for one thousand years,
one thousand years at the world, still a thousand years.

what such a good lie you're my soul,
and how great's my time, what a good company!
I've spied on myself, deceiving myself, failing
and aborting the sons like dreams.

I've watched myself as I was cryin' at a snow's mirror,
I've seen myself while I was smilin',
I've seen myself back-to-back as I was leavin' to,
I say to you goodbye from tomorrow's countries.

they're visions of farmer souls,
on the fly around the world
one thousand years at the world, still a thousand years
what such a good lie you're my soul!

and how great's this time, what loneliness!
what a good company!

The "Anime Salve" album title refers to the etymology of the two words, "soul" and "Save", and wants to maintain the original meaning of "lonely spirit." In the verse "I have seen that I was leaving behind" the song of the same name already hints at the refusal of identity registry, that is, the character built by an authority that wants to impose on each of being in the world or in place; loneliness, which in this case consists of an autonomous choice, can not stay in the pile: the only condition is not likely to be contaminated by the passions of party is a tranquil state of mind that allows you to indulge in the absolute, its images and its items, inner and outer, unbranded hairpieces.

****

Sung in two voices by Fabrizio and Ivano Fossati, "Anime Salve" is a reflection on the passage of time and, together, a tribute to loneliness.
Loneliness can observe themselves and their time, but also the future past, the internal time ("endless hours as constellations and waves / ruthless like the eyes of memory"), as the metric of irregular stanzas and verses - the superimposition of two items on the passages of time confirms it - but even the weather outside ("country of tomorrow / that are visions of peasant souls / in flight for the world").
