Collio wines
The nature of the ground and its location, sheltered from the cold of the
Julian Alps and warmed by the sun of the nearby Adraitic, yields a
premium-quality wine area, among the finest and the most renowned wines in
the world; that is the reason why the Collio has always represented a
special area for winegrowing where the hills are covered by rows of vines
following its gentle slopes, among woodlands, meadow grounds, castles and
small churches.

Wines from the Collio
| It is no doubt
the best wine in Friuli for long ageing. |
| Cabernet
Sauvignon makes an excellent table wine of a deep ruby
colour. |
| Chardonnay is
a still or sparkling wine. |
| White wine
with delicately muscat, elegant and rightly intense
aroma. |
| It acquires an
interesting aroma and flavour of woodland after some
years of ageing. |
| It is
difficult to judge the characteristics of this wine,
because of the variety of Gamay grapes. |
| It is the
cross resulting from two wines such as Riesling and
Pinot Bianco. |
| Slightly
herbaceous flavour and raspberry scented when young. |
| It is yellow
with a touch of young green. |
| Delicate,
intense, notably fruity aroma, clearly redolent of
violet and raspberries. |
| Its bouquet is
full and fragrant with a delicate aroma of raspberries,
blackberries and blueberries |
| Fragrant and
delicate in its fruity aroma redolent of a blend of
apple, pear, peach and apricot. |
Extraordinarily fine, this wine is deep-straw-yellow
coloured, delicately perfumed. |
| Contained and
mysterious in its flavour, shy as if unwilling to show
itself. |
| Acceptable
aroma but with no particular personality, pleasant,
suitable for everyday meals. |
| Pinot
Auxerrois, both still and sparkling, is the best a
connoisseur could desire. |
| It has medium
alcohol content, balanced body, straw-yellow colour with
young green tints. |
| However strong
its personality, this wine cannot beat the delicacy of
Pinot Bianco |
| It is a
shining star in the enological constellation of Friuli. |
| It can be
considered an ace among wines par excellence. |
| Ramandolo is
the name by which Friuli sweet Verduzzo is known. |
| Wine with
intense and pleasant aroma, with scents of wild
blackberries and woodlands. |
| It is only
slightly superior to normal table wine. |
| A wine of a
light straw-yellow colour, characterised by a dry,
fresh, winey, light, bodied flavour. |
| Scented,
fresh, dry, easily digestible, quite simple. |
| Very fine
fruity bouquet redolent of peach, apricot and
blackberries |
| A cuvee made
up of 70 to 80% Merlot grapes and of 20-30% other
grapes. |
| Both its
bouquet and taste are redolent of exotic fruit, yellow
peppers and melon. |
| Red wine of
good body, good fixed acidity, low on alcohol, fresh and
citrine. |
| It is clearly
redolent of ripe peach, green apple and apricot. |
| Strong and
robust wine from birth which gets softer after two-three
years of ageing. |
| Low on alcohol
content, full bodied and almost dense, it is fragrant,
very winey and exuberant. |
| It is a great
wine: fine, delicate, intensely aromatic and redolent of
wild flowers. |
| It has a
fragrant aroma reminiscent of vanilla and lime flowers. |
| Standard
Verduzzo is pale yellow, has an average alcohol content,
is robust and slightly acidic. |
