Prealpi Giulie Nature Park

The Prealpi Giulie Regional Nature Park is a mountain park, covering an overall surface area of around 10,000 hectares including the territories of the Municipalities of  Chiusaforte, Lusevera, Moggio Udinese, Resia and Resiutta  in the Province of Udine; the massif of Mt. Canin with its 2,600 meters is the highest peak (where you can find the only glacier in the region).

In Prato di Resia is located the seat of the Park Office(Ente Parco), which hosts a modern equipped Visitors’ center, and there are an information bureau, exhibition rooms, an audiovisual room, labs, guestrooms and a small shop.
The building, situated in a scenic position, opens out onto an enchanting view of the Valley.
The tourist has the chance to:
-Know the protected area by visiting exhibits housed in appropriate rooms;
-Visit the territory virtually using information equipment at their disposal;
-Follow the educational path that links the center with the underlying stream passing through fields and woods in which there are often roe deers and woodpeckers;
-Stay in a cozy guest-house with 21 beds and thematic rooms dedicated to animals (such as foxes, badgers, squirrels);
-Purchase a souvenir to remind you of the Park’s atmosphere.

On reservation it is possible to take part in organized tours in the Park or in the territory of the six Municipalities concerned, backed by an Alpine guide or by field experts: flora, fauna, geology, local history and culture. The excursionists are suggested to provide themselves with a map and to ask at the Park Office for information and brochures (informative route maps and periodicals). Given the nature of the ground, the frequency of the downpours and the consequent falls in temperature, it is recommended a suitable equipment, including climbing boots and a light-weight sweater and anorak.

The guided tours schedule ranges from May to October, it is split into routes of different levels of difficulty, distance covered and differences in height, in order to meet both family groups and trained excursionists needs. It is also possible to combine naturalistic walks with the visit of old towns, exhibitions and museums, historical and warpaths, canyoning, climbing and hiking.
