The vineyards around Kaltern are like a gentle
invitation to move towards the south. Vineyards as far as you can see.
Cypress trees, bay trees and olive trees form part of the scenery. The air
is filled with a Mediterranean flair. Historic manors built in the area of 'Überetsch'
architectural style determine the village scenery. Typical details speak of
southern architecture. It is part of the southern life-style to enjoy life
in the piazza.
Lake 'Kalterer See' is the true centrepiece of the
area. The warmest bathing lake of the Alps is a popular destination from
April to October. The biotopes at the southern slopes of the lake are home
to rare types of birds. The ruins of Castle Leuchtenburg are situated high
above the lake.
Over the past few years, the village, together with
the wine producers, have decided to ensure new wine quality with the aid of
'wein.kaltern'. This is a strategy of strict guidelines, which brings
quality to the forefront. From a reduced wine cultivation to professional
storage, it all ensures top quality for each bottle and barrel.
