Capital of Trentino, not far from the Dolomites and the numerous lakes that can be found near by, Trento is a city of art that has a strong Renaissance mark, which characterises it for its colors, its buildings and make it unique in the entire Alpine arc. Trento is able to surprise as it always presents itself in a new form, maintaining at the same time close links to tradition. Visitors throughout the various seasons can admire its many folded facets: “Citta’ in giardino” after the awakening of spring, its tasty products in the autumn period, kept alive by its historical reenactments during the S Vigilio festival at the end of June or illuminated by the “warm” Christmas market lights during Advent.

Home to the Council of Trent (1545 – 1563), it has always been a bridge between the Italian and Central European culture. The city offers a lot to the keen visitor from its many historical to artistic aspects: from the underground archaeological site of the Tridentum dating back to the Roman period, to the Cathedral’s palaeo christian Basilica in the basement and its beautiful square, walking amongst Renaissance palazzi, churches and the Castello del Buonconsiglio, home for many centuries to the Prince bishops of Trento.

Home for a millenium to Prince Bishops who turned the Buonconsiglio castle into one od the best known castles in the whole of Europe, Trento is a case of exemplary autonomy and self government, still to be seen today in every corner of its historical centre.

An incredibily rich museum offer covering many fields, from art to history, tradition and science, with science being protagonist at the opening of MUSE, the very modern centre designed by Renzo Piano. Unforgettable experiences can be lived in Trento’s museums!

Bondone in Winter

On the so-called “Alpe di Trento”, in one of the region’s oldest ski resorts, that witnessed the first official introduction of a lift facility in Trentino, the renowned “slittone” by Giovanni Graffer, erected in the mid-1930s, this is virtually a sort of town district uphill, a highly appreciated small but well equipped ski resort at a quite small distance from the town.

Monte Bondone rises at only 500 meters from the “Trento Centro” A22 motorway exit. One is suddenly surrounded by an enchanting mountain environment, offering majestic views over the region’s mountain ranges, from the Brenta to the Fassa Dolomites.
